Description: Looking to make gifted programs more inclusive? This hands-on session offers practical strategies and tools to help educators identify gifted students more equitably. Learn how to use assessments that highlight thinking and problem-solving – not just what students already know.

Participant Outcomes:

  1. Participants will learn the number of children of color have been denied access to gifted programs.
  2. Participants will learn how to use research findings as a guide and to detect the kinds of test questions that measure knowledge and therefore pose an obstacle to students with limited opportunity to learn.
  3. Participants will learn how to use universal assessment with local and national norms to achieve equitable identification.
