Take a Chance on Flexibility: Lessons from Homeschooling to Support Gifted Students

Location: Sandstone 3

Description: Gifted kids thrive when they have flexibility, choice, and the freedom to dive deep into their interests—things homeschoolers do naturally. What if schools took a chance on these strategies? In this session, I’ll explore how student-led learning, interdisciplinary projects, and flexible pacing can make a big difference in gifted education.

Participant Outcomes: Attendees will understand homeschool strategies that support gifted learners, including flexible pacing, student-led learning, and interdisciplinary projects. They will be able to identify Identify ways to adapt these strategies within traditional school settings to better engage and challenge gifted students. We will explore real-world examples of how alternative education models successfully meet the needs of gifted learners. Ultimately, I plan that they will walk away from the session with practical, ready-to-use ideas for creating more flexible and personalized learning experiences in their classrooms or gifted programs.
