Description:
Taking a chance on gifted education means rethinking who we see—and don’t see—as gifted. For bilingual learners, standardized labels and language acquisition status can unintentionally mask their true potential. This session invites educators to move beyond those labels and take a bold, equity-driven approach to identifying and nurturing giftedness in bilingual contexts.
Participants will explore how cultural and linguistic diversity can enrich giftedness and how traditional identification practices often fall short in recognizing these learners. With practical tools, research-based strategies, and real-world examples, the session will empower attendees to advocate for inclusive policies and classroom practices that spotlight the strengths of bilingual students. By shifting perspectives and taking a chance on students who are often overlooked, educators can unlock exceptional talent that thrives at the intersection of language and intellect.
