WATG has been awarded a third straight year of grants from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.  Information regarding workshops and projects available from WATG will be posted shortly following the WATG Fall Conference.

SENG Parent Discussion Group

Parents,

Could you use some help supporting the emotional needs of your gifted child?  You’re invited to participate in a FREE SENG Parent Discussion Group on Thursday, February 18, 2010 from 7:00 pm- 9:00 pm at Todd Wehr Center (TWC) Room 128-C at Carthage College (2001 Alford Park Dr, in Kenosha).

The SENG Parent Discussion Group Model is a nationally recognized model for supporting parents of gifted children.  SENG is an acronym for the organization Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (www.sengifted.org)

This opportunity is an important part of a two-day workshop in which parents and professionals in our area are being trained to conduct guided discussion groups based on the SENG model. SENG groups emphasize positive aspects of parenting, avoiding power struggles, and helping gifted children learn appropriate life skills while enhancing the parent/child relationship and parent self-esteem.  WATG is especially pleased to announce that Dr James Webb, founder of SENG and Mrs. Arlene DeVries, a professional in gifted education and trainer of SENG model parent facilitators, are the trainers for this workshop.

Sixty parents are needed for parent discussion groups so that those being trained as facilitators can get some first-hand experience while the training is fresh and experts are still available for supervision and feedback. Come and meet other parents of gifted children interested in learning and sharing resources for providing for the social and emotional needs of their gifted children. Topics to be covered will include all aspects of raising gifted children from preschool age through high school.

The event is FREE, but you must register to attend.  Register online now
here.

The registration deadline is Monday, February 15, 2010.

The WEB Forum Project

This project will connect teachers and coordinators around the state (to share projects, lessons, strategies, etc.) using a forum/message board-based website hosted and maintained by WATG.  The forum can be found at www.watg.org/forums.  We expect that this "e-connection" will also cache important information and threads of discussion, providing an easily accessible link to information over time.  As this forum goes “live,” more information will be shared!
