Gifted and Talented Licensure Course

Off-Campus Cohort: Summer 2013

UW-Whitewater is offering EDFOUND 781 "Foundations of Gifted and Talented Education" at a special 50% discounted price in Summer 2013. This is a ONE-TIME OFFER for off-campus students only.  EDFOUND 781 is the first course toward both the supplementary teaching license in gifted education and the in-process gifted and talented program coordinator license.  (UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater cooperatively offer the only gifted education licensure program in WI.)

How many courses are required for the full license?

There are four courses for either license or a total of five courses for both: the three core courses for both licenses are foundations, psychological issues, and curriculum/methods.  The teaching license then requires a practicum course while the coordinator license requires a program coordinator course with embedded practicum. Individuals are welcome to enroll in the 781course without proceeding toward either license.

Where and when will the courses be held?

The majority of this summer’s 781 will take place via the Desire2Learn online learning environment May 28 - July 5 (UW-Whitewater's first six-week summer session). Students who enroll in the cohort 781 will have one face-to-face meeting in the location of their choice:

  • Eau Claire, Tuesday, June 18 9:30AM - 2:30PM;

  • Madison/South Central Wisconsin Area, Tuesday June 18 9:30AM - 2:30PM;

  • Depending on interest and enrollment, a third location may be added.

How much does it cost?

Current tuition costs can be found here: https://uwwcost.uww.edu/; cost for this summer’s 781 class will be at a 50% discount from regular tuition for a total cost of approximately $710 for three graduate credits.  This is a ONE-TIME OFFER for off-campus students only.

How do I register for the summer EDFOUND 781 cohort course?

Email Carrie Lencho at lenchoc@uww.edu to request an admission/registration form to be completed and returned via email or fax.

What are the available gifted/talented licenses?

  • Requires three courses beyond 781 including a gifted teaching practicum course

2. Program Coordinator: Gifted and Talented (64-014) - PUPIL SERVICES PERSONNEL (school psychologists, counselors, and social workers) are eligible for this license

  • Requires three courses beyond 781 including a program coordinator course
