a private practice located on the west side of Madison. I have a background in school psychology and
counseling psychology. One of my special interests is working with children, teens, and young adults
who are considered gifted and talented. I will be writing a Q & A column geared towards helping parents
and educators who have children who are considered gifted and talented.
I attained my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology (School Psychology Program) at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison in 2008. My predoctoral internship was at the Waisman Center and at Memorial
High School in Madison. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship for the National Association of
School Psychologists in Washington DC advocating for children on topics such as gifted and talented
programming and funding. I completed a second postdoctoral residency at a private practice in Fort
Myers, FL in which I specialized in providing services for families with children who are considered gifted
I know how important it is that children/teens are matched with appropriate educational curriculum in
order to foster their educational success as well as enhance their life-long learning skills and desires. It
is also important to address the social and emotional needs of students that are gifted and talented. For
some students their intellectual skills are far above their social skills and emotional regulation skills, and
this disparity in skills causes some stress for children/teens.
Additionally, I have a very specialized interest in helping children that are considered “Twice
Exceptional.” These individuals may be quite advanced or gifted in a specific area of academic
achievement, but also have a significant deficit in another area. For these students it is incredibly
important that their needs are addressed in each area.
My goal is to help children, teens, and young adults to succeed in multiple facets of life, including
academically, socially, and emotionally. I hope that this column will help parents and educators guide
their gifted and talented children to reach all of their goals, dreams and, to most of all, be happy. I look
forward to reading your questions and discussion topics!
Please submit your question in the box on the right and I can address it in my next post.
